Two ICF 2027 deadlines, often confused.

Who may mentor January 1, 2027

Get your MCS before this deadline, when the credential is required to deliver credit-bearing hours. Earlier hours still count.

Who may evaluate candidates April 1, 2027

Performance Evaluation retires for ACC and PCC Portfolio. The MCS application fee more than doubles on this date.

What this is

Ten hours, built for coaches who already mentor.

ICF's Credit for Prior Learning path recognizes your existing practice and adds a focused education requirement. This program provides those ten hours, aligned with the ICF Mentor Coaching Competencies. It is not an introduction; it assumes you can already coach and have already mentored. This course sharpens the craft of mentorship: observing accurately, separating evidence from inference, calibrating against credential-level criteria, and giving feedback that measurably moves a coach's practice.

What it does not doIt does not award the MCS, guarantee ICF approval, replace ICF evaluation training, or substitute for the 41-hour Standard Path. ICF makes all final determinations.

Before you register

Three questions to determine ICF's Credit for Prior Learning path eligibility. All three need a yes.

Credit for Prior Learning is narrow by design. If any answer is no, the Standard Path is likely your route, and it's better to know now than after you have paid.

Got the right credential?

You hold an active PCC or MCC, or an ACC renewed at least once and in good standing.

Mentored five candidates?

You have mentored within the past three years five or more practitioners who have since earned an ICF credential, and you can document it.

Got ACC BARS and/or PCC Marker training?

You have taken or are planning to take these classes available through the ICF website.

The five live sessions

Each session builds on the ICF Mentor Coaching Competencies.

Role, scope, and ethical foundations

Define your role as a mentor coach. Get clear on the difference between coaching, supervision, mentoring, teaching, and assessing. Protect recordings and client data.

Agreements, safety, and learning design

Empower the coaches you mentor. Build agreements that hold, co-design development goals, and balance real challenge with real safety across identity, culture, and power.

Formative appraisal and calibration

Support the development and advancement of your coach, for the benefit of their clients. Apply credential-level standards without drift, then calibrate your observations against peers.

Feedback that develops practice

Work to the guidelines for skill-focused feedback. Turn observation into feedback a coach can act on, manage your own bias, and honor a coach's style while holding the standard.

Group mentor coaching and application readiness

Mentor a coach for credential preparation and for continuous development beyond it. Deliver transparent, high-quality mentor coaching consistent with industry standards.

Who teaches it

Dr. Alina Bas, PhD, PCC, MCS

Alina is an executive coach, strategy consultant, and adjunct professor of organizational psychology at NYU GSAS, where she has taught Advanced Executive Coaching and Development, as well as Personnel Selection to graduate students. She holds the ICF Mentor Coach Specialization at the ACC and PCC levels, and has more than twenty years coaching senior leaders through high-stakes decisions.

Her doctoral research at the University of Strathclyde Business School (UK) examined the way knowledge workers advance under the conditions of uncertainty, when reliable data is lacking and previous protocols fail. She has presented in front of audiences at the U.S. Army War College, Academy of Management, Garrison Institute, MIT Sloan, Google, the Oceania Futures and Foresight Symposium, and the American Council on Education. Dr. Bas is a best-selling author and a co-author of several book chapters and peer-reviewed academic papers.

Questions

Before you decide

Does this course grant me the MCS?

No. It provides the ten hours of education required under Credit for Prior Learning. You apply to ICF separately, and ICF decides. You will also need ICF evaluation training for each level you seek, plus evidence of your recent mentoring.

Does it replace ICF evaluation training?

No, and the two do not overlap. Evaluation training hours do not count toward the ten education hours. This course builds the observation, calibration, and feedback capabilities in the Mentor Coaching Competencies; it does not reproduce confidential ICF evaluation materials.

I am not sure Credit for Prior Learning is my path.

Please ask before you register. If you do not meet all three conditions, the 41-hour Standard Path is likely your route, and this course will not get you there. Email me and I will tell you plainly.

Are sessions recorded, and what if I miss one?

Sessions are not recorded; this protects candid practice and confidentiality. Full attendance is required for the 10-hour certificate. When space permits, a missed module may be completed live with a later cohort; partial attendance is documented only for hours actually attended.

How do I pay, and are there fees?

Tuition is $599 whichever way you pay. You can pay with a credit card or via PayPal during the registration. Please reach out to me at Alina@AlinaBas.com if you prefer to make a bank transfer. No processing fee is added to your total.

Can my organization request a private cohort?

Yes. ICF-accredited programs, universities, and coach communities can request a dedicated cohort with its own schedule. Please email me with your group size and timing at Alina@AlinaBas.com.

Continue the work you already do, with the preparation the new standard requires.

The autumn 2026 Cohort 1 runs from 23 September to 1 October. More dates will be added. If you are unsure whether Credit for Prior Learning is your path, please ask before you register.
